Editing Pt.2

Today my friend Jason came and helped me edit audio and other things for my project. My recommendation for the software came from him so he had a very good grasp of how to properly use it. We edited all the audio, and also added additional narrations for the viewers. Having help really motivated me and i liked being taught by a peer. It was a change of pace and i am ready to present my video.

Editing

I edited most of my video today. I uploaded the clips and put them together in sequential order to begin. One of my main issues today was my unfamiliarity with the software. I spent more time figuring out the controls than I did editing shots. However, by the end of the period i felt much more comfortable with the software. I still need to add all the audio, as well as transitions and effects, but i feel confident in my progress.

New footage!

Today i filmed most of the content needed for my video. I got several good scenes of the students working, as well as multiple interviews. These interviews involved the construction teacher, and three construction students. I was happy with the good on-the-spot responses i got from each subject. My questions were basically "What have you done here that you're most proud of?" I also got footage of some finished projects. The editing software (adobe premiere 8) has arrived and i plan on getting on and learning the ins and outs so i can do well with the real footage.

Progress

I am in the middle of my filming and hope to soon begin editing the shots i have compiled. Today i filmed all exterior shots. I got the front and sides of the building, and also some very useful interior shots. My goal is to show the viewer as much of the school as i can so they can have an idea of what it really looks like. Over half of my shots will be showcasing the ACE facilities. I am happy with the progression of my project so far.

Software

Today I'm meeting with my mentor to learn about the different editing software i could use. The only software I've had experience with is Final Cut for the Mac. I have made two short videos with this program before. In our meeting today i hope to narrow it down to three options and propose said options to Marjan and Mr. Taylor. My criteria for the software is based on price, brand, and reviews. I need to know that the software will be worth the money spent by the program. 1:00 departure from ACE to Parkrose on 1/28/10

Capstone

My capstone is a short video documenting the ACE academy. This will hopefully serve as an advertising tool for ACE to bring in students or get fund raising. The video, more specifically, will focus on the construction program at ACE. I hope to get interviews with some of the construction students and possibly teachers. As far as shots, i will focus on the building and facilities, as well as the students working on projects. I hope to make my video short and to the point, without redundancy or wasted shots.
